Meet Lisa
My path to counselling has been shaped by a life of rich and diverse experiences, relationships and opportunities. Along the way, I have worked in roles including cleaning, hospitality, nannying, nurse assisting, fashion retail, disability, and the music industry among others. I have also travelled and lived in various locations, and as a consequence, have developed a deep appreciation for the many ways people move through the world. I have known life's joys, and weathered its inevitable hardships and unexpected turns. These experiences have broadened my perspective, and sharpened my attention to how differently people carry the same events.
I bring my lived experience of caregiving, grief, managing significant life transitions, supporting people through complex circumstances, and actively pursuing social justice for myself and others. That experience has deepened my empathy. Every person, I believe, deserves to be heard with dignity, compassion, and respect. Everybody has a story to tell; a story to learn from.
My lifelong and profound sense of curiosity, has led to my interest in psychology, social justice, literature, film, philosophy, history, nature, art, and culture, all of which have contributed to my understanding of the ways people understand themselves, and the world around them. I believe that continuing to learn, from both people and ideas, helps me remain open, reflective, and genuinely interested in what each person is working through.
The True North Approach
Life doesn't always unfold the way we imagined. Some ruptures are visible to everyone around us, while others are quietly met and managed without anyone else noticing. Whatever form it takes, I believe therapy offers a chance to pause, get your bearings, and find your own direction again.
There is no single therapeutic approach that is right for every person. We each bring our own life experiences, strengths, values and worldviews. For this reason, I work from an integrative approach, thoughtfully drawing from a range of evidence-informed therapies to support each person's situation. These include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Attachment Theory.
I also recognise the close connection between the mind and body. Our experiences are not only held in our thoughts, but are also reflected in our emotions, nervous system, and physical responses. By gently exploring both, therapy can support deeper understanding, healing, and lasting change.
I welcome people from all cultural backgrounds and identities. My aim is to provide a culturally sensitive practice, where each person's story is listened to with genuine curiosity, acceptance, and recognition of its sanctity.
